I have had a PVS-14 for about a year now and 90% of the time I run it with a focus point of 50 yards which gives me a “clear enough” picture out to infinity at the price of a blurred picture at 15 yards and in.
It's been a minor inconvenience and I pretty much decided I would live with it until I saw a DIY version of the Matbock Tarsier Eclipse NVG Focus Enhancement Device by @RiskyChrisky on Telegram.
While looking into the extended FOV concept I found a good article at TheFirarmBlog and a great demo of the DIY version below.

ASSEMBLED
IS IT WORTH IT?
I’ve been using this setup for a few months now in and around structures on the homestead and on a few night patrols and can say that it is worth it, but not the game changer everyone makes it out to be.
PROS (IN ORDER)
Allows easy adjustment of DOF and amplitude of the tube, replacing the tiny amplitude dial in the front of the PVS-14. You just leave the amplitude all the way up and adjust the diopter size down, increasing the DOF until the light level is at the lowest you can work with.
When you need to see brighter / farther, it allows fast adjustment and is in a natural placement (on the end of the tube) to do so quickly.
Allows DOF to span working distances of 5ft in front of you to 50 yards.
Allows you to see into your gun or up close ~1ft to 10ft with illuminator on.
Provides protection and by drilling a hole in the cap, a daylight cap build in.
CONS
At $76.97 it’s a nice to have , not a must have. YMMV
Keep it coming, always good to hear reviews from the ones I trust
