Lucy is the name the Albert King gave his 1959 Gibson Flying V and the guitar he is known for playing. The saying “fear the man with one gun” has validity because it implies that he has an intimate knowledge of it and is master over it.
I try to live by this ideology and is the reason why I have only a few weapons and ninety percent of the time only shoot one rifle (this one) and my G17 pistol. I know both are tried and true, and have never let me down.
Although I have nowhere near the level of mastery of anything such as an Albert King ( If you don’t know his work, I suggest starting with this awesome jam session with SRV) I prefer my favorites and most practiced with weapons as I’m sure Albert did his beloved “Lucy”, they just feel “at home” when used, like a glove to hand fit.
Because I have the advantage of a 16” barrel and 1-10x optic on my “Lucy” I am now running 77gr HBTs instead of my standard 62gr M855, allowing for bit better ballistics from the heavier bullet.
Adding the offset T1 gives me passive aiming which will do in a pinch, but more importantly allows for up close engagement of movers along with allowing for awkward shooting positions without fear of parallax error I might run into on the 1-10X LVPO.
The ability to keep both eyes wide open while scanning 0-100M via the red-dot and then flip the Vudu set on 6X into place without searching through magnification makes for the fastest acquisition and distance shooting setup there is in my experience. I actually like shooting with the gun canted and had a similar setup with my 4X ACOG and Offset T1 before buying an LPVO.
I’m not a fan of the on top dot setups as they do not retain the same cheek weld that the offset does. But they are better than just an LPVO in my opinion.
When LVPOs first got really popular, everyone seemed to drop offsets and gravitate toward the scope throw levers and just live with the small time difference. That’s fine in 3-Gun were you are not concerned with redundancy, but for SHTF I want the redundancy a red-dot backed up with a fixed reticle.
I want the advantages of a dot for speed and a simple aiming solution along with long range PID and bullet drop compensation via a BDC or MILDOT reticle.
If I had the money I would likely go with the compact 3-18X Lupy and the offset dot, sacrificing the redundant 1X for farther reach for PID, but I don’t and likely will not be getting anymore scopes, the redundant 1X in the LPVO and a top end of 10X is still a lot of scope though and I’m happy with the setup as is.
The triple redundant irons are only because the rail has flip-ups built in or I would not bother, but since they are there and it seems stupid to leave a rear flip-up off for a minuscule weight savings, they get to stay.

Great article you have laid out everything logically and I love the Lucy reference... love me some Blues !! if you are able can you load a picture showing the placement of your red dot I was just curious how you had it placed on the rifle...Beautiful set up
There is something to be said for muscle memory. The weight, feel, controls and sight systems are all part of that.
