One option I’m considering for a GHB setup is wearing dedicated rain gear and using a 5x8 MEST tarp as shown in this video. The worries I have are overheating in the rain gear verses using a poncho while rucking in <45F weather.
I want a system that can be setup in the rain and have a dry space inside.
With every test I do, I find something that I’m not willing to live with, like not having dedicated long stakes for tie outs in this case. Also, I’m adding (4) 6” nails to peg the ground cloth flat to help keep things dry instead of it picking up water every time the edges fold over.
While this setup was not horrible, I think packing the rods to make this tarp into an Alpha-Tent is going to be a better answer than this.
Good video! I like the idea of packing the poles to utilize it as an Alpha Tent.
Great set up and video my friend...I agree about having the dedicated rain suit making a huge difference while setting up in the actual rain...I believe yours is the first I have seen...I really am digging these tests...I always found heavy duty black plastic sheeting to be a big help both in rain and snow...
