This is something I have gone back and forth on myself. In our AO, the ground is wet as often as it is dry. We also have Jurassic park levels of insects and such looking to drain every drop of blood they can from your body. So getting up off the ground can definitely be a huge plus. The flip side though is, and I admit it's partly a personal thing, I hate not having my rifle literally next to me when I'm asleep and I haven't found a way to comfortably keep one in my hammock with me. Another personal issue is, with my back situation, I find that I just can't get comfortable for long in a hammock. So yeah, I go back and forth...

Good points and write up.

On an unrelated note... I see you are a man of excellent taste. Always good to see a fellow Crossfire user.

Unless I have an inflatable (Exped R7) under me, the ground kills my back. On a patrol I’m not sleeping or doing so against a tree. Bugs are not bad here like your part of the country, it’s mostly a back issue for me.

I get it. With my aftermarket titanium additions to my back, everything is uncomfortable, lol. So I guess it's a moot point really.
