With the price of ammo the past few years, I've pretty much stops shooting on a regular basis. The last time I shot more than a mag of ammo as of this initial post (03.19.2023) was May 22, 2022 and I've been stone cold on my pistol for at least 6 months.
So I'm going to keep track of my cold times on this post and use it as a reminder to get some shooting in from time to time and judge where I am on the sliding scale of proficiency.
There is no excuse for not doing dry-fire though and I will try to get back into that also and will expect to see better times and accuracy with just dry-fire. Every 3-6 months I will try to run this same drill as a "time check" and indicator of the ability to deliver effective fire cold, on demand.
COLD AND ON DEMAND IS THE ONLY THING THAT COUNTS!
There are no pre-shooting sight pictures or warm up runs on the street.
I have two drills that I’m using:
The first is just something I thought of off the cuff I called the SHOOT ‘EM DOWN DRILL and focuses on getting the gun into the fight and stopping a single threat closeup with cadence shooting and flash picture.
The second is Chuck Pressburg’s NO FAIL DRILL for accuracy.
EDIT: After such a poor performance on the first NO FAIL DRILL, I benched the gun and verified the sights were fine. In doing so, I also discovered that at 57 years old, I can no longer see the front sight crisp and the target blurred. I have decided to put an RMR on the G17 because of this and will make one more run with irons before switching over for comparison with the future Holosun 509T that is on the way.
SHOOT ‘EM DOWN DRILL RECORD:
03.19.2023: 6 shots in 2.85, first shot miss, 5 hits
NO FAIL DRILL RECORD:
05.08.2023: 1 hit of 10, 1 over time penalty
09.03.2023: 3 hit of 10, no penalty (no live fire since 05.08.2023, some dry fire)

12" Tall x 5" Wide Steel Plate @ 7 Yards
Draw from concealment or SHTF Belt (retention) and fire 6 shots.
Record draw time and splits.
Not going for fastest splits, but in the .20/.25 area for decisive fire of each shot.

Somehow the sound got clipped during editing, and I deleted the original before noticing.

10 strings of (1) shot at black of [NRA B-8C(T) - 25 yard Repair Center] @ 25 yards
3.5sec PAR time, can blow one par time.
Anything outside of black is a fail.
The black on the repair center is 5.5" wide, if you don't want to buy targets, you can use this [free printout].
NFD FIRST RUN 05.08.2023

Felt good, assume only hit, I had checked target after shot 7 because I lost track of shots fired and there were none in black.

Obviously I need a lot of work on presentation. I did not do any dry fire like I said I would after the 03.19.2023 drill. It shows.
I am going to re-shoot it without pars and benched to see what my best group is and if the sights are off. I doubt it's the sights but I have not grouped this set before at anything past 7 yards.
NFD SECOND RUN 09.03.2023
Most shots felt good on time, but a knew I pulled some as I didn’t have time to get a perfect sight picture. The ones that went wild, I called, but thought they were half the actual distance out of the bull than they ended up being.
This and previous targets are 5” bull instead of the 5.5” bull, I found a print out of the actual target for future use. The 1/2” did not matter in this or previous cases though.
Group was better centered this time as I was consentrating on the sight picture more than index, knowing I had done so poorly the first run on 05.08.2023
